“It Looks Just Like the Photos!”

– Countless people upon seeing Saturn through a telescope for the first time.

Bringing the Universe to You!

Are you looking for unique experiences at your public event, or organizing activities for a community group? Our mobile observatory can set up a modern, computer-controlled telescope at your event, allowing participants to view a variety of astronomical objects first-hand. We’ll also explain some of the more interesting science behind those objects, and describe where they fit into the big picture.

NOTE: For school events, please GO TO THIS PAGE.

 Day or Night

Looking for a daytime activity? Not a problem! We have white-light solar filters that reject 99.999% of all incoming light, resulting in a perfectly safe view of the Sun. We also have a specialized Solar “H-Alpha” telescope that provides amazing views of many dynamic features in the solar chromosphere such as filaments and prominences. Of course, if you are after an astronomy experience outside of normal business hours, these can also be arranged.

  Easy to Organise

All we need is a dry, level and open area to set up and a view of the sky, so organisation couldn’t be easier! Depending on the location and circumstances, we prefer vehicle access and around 30-45 minutes for set up and pack-up of equipment. And don’t worry about public liability insurance – we are covered (Certificate of Currency available upon request).

Our services are surprisingly affordable, however rates vary depending on the precise location and nature of the event or community group. Special rates may be available for groups such as Scouts or Guides. Generally, we operate within around 250 kilometers (or 3 hours drive) of the Brisbane CBD, though exceptions can be made. Please contact us for more information. Schools, please click here.

Help us Achieve our Goals!

BrightStar Astronomy is operated as a social enterprise with the primary goal of providing people with an in-person, hands-on experience with astronomy. We hope to use our amazing, globally-shared day and night skies to encourage more people to become actively engaged with science in general and amateur astronomy in particular. In order to maximise our ability to achieve this goal, we are currently offering visits to schools within 250 kilometers of Brisbane at no charge.

If you would like to assist us in accomplishing this lofty goal, and keeping our service free of charge to students, we would be extremely grateful if you would consider leaving a small donation. Alternatively, if you would like to offer sponsorship or in-kind support, please do not hesitate to contact us!

BrightStar Astronomy is currently supported by the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, an Australian Government initiative
