We Bring the Universe to You!
BrightStar Astronomy aims to share the universe with as many people as possible, and to spark their curiosity into this amazing science! Our mobile observatory can bring a modern, computer-controlled telescope to your school allowing students to view a variety of astronomical objects first-hand. We’ll also explain some of the more interesting science behind the objects, and describe where they fit into the bigger picture.
Day or Night
Only available during the day? Not a problem! We have white-light solar filters that reject 99.999% of all incoming light, resulting in a perfectly safe view of the Sun. Additionally, we will soon have a specialized Solar telescope that provides amazing views of many dynamic Solar features such as filaments and prominences. Of course, if you are after an astronomy experience outside of school hours, these can also be arranged.
Easy to Organise
Because we are a mobile service, you don’t have to worry about buses or transport – so organising a visit couldn’t be simpler. All we need is a dry, level and open area to set up and a view of the sky! Depending on the location and circumstances, we prefer nearby vehicle access and around 30-45 minutes for set up and pack-up of equipment. And don’t worry about public liability insurance – we are currently covered through Elders Insurance Pty Ltd (Certificate of Currency available upon request).
Complements the Curriculum
Give your students a real “hands-on” (or perhaps that should be “eyes-on”!) experience in astronomy to complement their learning. We can also give a short talk/presentation or hold a more informal question-and-answer session if desired.
Our services are surprisingly affordable. In fact, if you are a school within 250 kilometers of the Brisbane CBD (or about 3 hours drive), we can visit at no charge! Please contact us if you wish to find out more.

Help us Achieve our Goals!
BrightStar Astronomy is operated as a social enterprise with the primary goal of providing people with an in-person, hands-on experience with astronomy. We hope to use our amazing, globally-shared day and night skies to encourage participants to become actively engaged with science in general and amateur astronomy in particular. In order to maximise our ability to achieve this goal, we are currently offering visits to schools within 250 kilometers of Brisbane at no charge.
If you would like to assist us in accomplishing this lofty goal, and keeping our service free of charge to students, we would be extremely grateful if you would consider leaving a small donation. Alternatively, if you would like to offer sponsorship or in-kind support, please do not hesitate to contact us!
BrightStar Astronomy is currently supported by the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, an Australian Government initiative
